In this Colloquium, Postdoctoral Fellow Onur Ozgode (Ph.D. in Sociology, Columbia University) will be presenting his paper, “The Emergence of Systemic Risk”. To explain how the Federal Reserve came to govern the financial system against the most fundamental principle of political liberalism—private risk-private reward, the paper traces the construction of systemic risk in the Fed as a governmental problem in the 1970s.
